Everyone should see this movie

Filed in Movies

It’s called Killer At Large: Why Obesity is America’s Greatest Threat. If you have Netflix, you can watch it on streaming video. I really am starting to realize that being healthy and being environmental really go hand in hand. Also loved learning about Sommerville, Massachusetts.

Best Picture 2010 Ranked

Filed in Uncategorized

I finally saw all 10 movies up for 2010 Best Picture for the Academy Awards. Here are my favorites, ranked. Notice that there is a three-way tie for second place.

1. Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire***

2. Inglourious Basterds

3. The Hurt Locker

4. The Blind Side****

5. Up***

6. Up in the Air

7. District 9*

8. An Education

9. Avatar

10. A Serious Man

Movies marked with asterisks note movies that made me cry. The more stars, the more there were tears falling. I also edited from a previous post to break the ties.

Movies and where you watch them

Filed in Movies

I think where you see a movie affects your perception and reaction to the movie. I find that when I go to see a movie in a theatre, I am 100% paying attention to the movie. This makes me notice more things that I may miss if watching at home. When at home, I am easily distracted by objects in my apartment or unfinished chores. Even as I type this, I have District 9 paused on my dvd player. I remember seeing Brokeback Mountain on the big screen in the theatre and loved it. I watched it again at home and thinking it was not as good as I remember. Certain scenes just didn’t translate to a smaller screen. Maybe I need a bigger, better tv? Shaaa!

Express Music

Filed in Girls Aloud

Each month, I visit Express.com and click on Express Radio. I find some cool songs on there and was introduced to some artists like David Guetta, Deadmau5, Leighton Meester (only knew she was an actress), and LaRoux. This month I was surprised to find a Girls Aloud song (Satisfaction, taken from the St. Trinian’s soundtrack).

My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to get to see The Pee-Wee Herman Show at Club Nokia in Los Angeles last Friday. The show was amazing and one of the funniest parts was when Pee-Wee showed us all a short film about manners. I found the film in it’s entirety on youtube.

Going Greener 2010

Filed in Real Life

In 2007, I began using reusable bags and CFLs.

In 2008, I started using rechargeable batteries.

This year, I am banning plastic sandwich bags, cling wrap, sponges, and panti-liners. Just ordered a few cute things from reusablebags.com. Got a snack taxi and some stainless steel containers to put leftovers in. Going to get some dish brushes from IKEA and ditch the sponges. If you are interested in how I am getting rid of panti-liners, you can just email on that one ;)
