American Girls Collection Pamphlets and Miscellaneous Information

Some of these papers and pamphlets used to be sent out with items bought from American Girl; other things are retired. Click on any picture to see a larger version! A special thanks to Robin (QNPoohbear) for scanning the newsletters and Tiffany for the wealth of information on the pamphlets and for all the picture scans!

The first 3 historical characters (Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly) used to come with descriptive pamphlets (also sometimes called "hangtags" by AG Customer Service).

In 1991, the pamphlets added the doll name and a picture of the new outfits for girls (introduced in 1987) on the back.

Each doll (except for Kaya, Julie, and Rebecca) has a total of 7 core pamphlets (not including Special Edition Outfits and their corresponding pamphlets). To use Samantha as an example:
Meet ___ (corresponds to the book Meet Samantha)
School Story (corresponds to the book Samantha Learns a Lesson)
Christmas Story (corresponds to the book Samantha's Surprise)
Birthday Story (corresponds to the book Happy Birthday, Samantha!)
Summer Story (corresponds to the book Samantha Saves the Day)
Winter Story (corresponds to the book Changes for Samantha)
Sweet Dreams (does not specifically correspond to only one story. Features bed, nightgown, etc.)
*The Sweet Dreams pamphlet was previously known as Pleasant Dreams, Samantha (or other character's name) until 1997.

Because Nez Perce American Indians do not celebrate birthdays (among other things), American Girl had to change the standard layout of the book series for Kaya. As a result, Kaya's stories follow a different format:
Meet Kaya,Kaya's Escape, Kaya's Hero, Kaya and Lone Dog, Kaya Shows the Way, and Changes for Kaya.
Kaya had the following pamphlets:Kaya; Kaya's Celebrations; Kaya's Winter Work and Play; Kaya’s Jingle Dress of Today, and a pamphlet that shows both Kaya’s Jingle Dress of Today with Kaya’s Fancy Shawl Outfit of Today.

Addy's collection was first introduced as the doll, school story and accessories, and Christmas story and accessories. When the second half of her collection was unveiled in 1994, her pamphlets had the maroon border added. All the other historical characters at the time also had their pamphlets changed to include a maroon border.

When Josefina Montoya and Kit Kittredge were introduced, in 1997 and 2000, respectively; their pamphlets had the border as well. This means they only had one possible pamphlet style, which was borded.

By the time Julie Albright was released (2007), she only had one pamphlet for all her stories. The remaining other historical dolls were also given only one revised pamphlet.

There were special edition outfits released in 1997 for the 5 historical characters at the time (Felicity, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha, and Molly) and were only available for one year. Those came with pamphlets.

In 1999, the six historical characters (Felicity, Josefina, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha, and Molly) were given short story outfits that came with a short story book and pamphlet.
