Picture of Samantha doll
My great aunt introduced my sister and I to the American Girls Collection when I was about 6 years old. My sister, who is 2 years older, received the book Meet Kirsten and I was given Meet Samantha. We both really liked the stories and my sister saved up and bought Kirsten when she was about 9 years old. I really wanted Samantha, and my dad bought her for me when I was around 7 or 8 years old. Every Christmas after, my sister and I asked for American Girl things from the catalog so we could complete our collections. There were only 3 dolls back then, Molly was the third. My friend loved our dolls and got Molly as a gift from her parents one year. We had all the dolls between us 3! When Felicity came out in 1991, I saved up and bought her. Then my older sister got jealous and bought her too! Then my sister's best friend bought Felicity! I lost interest in the dolls a few years later when I became a teenager. When I turned 19, I fell in love with the Josefina stories and had to get her, she awakened my love for American Girl! I ended up selling Felicity, because I wanted to save up to buy Josefina's birthday collection. Plus I think I was getting tired of everyone having Felicity. In 2001, Pleasant Company started retiring a lot of the AG collection! Felicity's collection has been drastically downsized and now she is selling for a lot more money! It is sad to think that people have to spend so much on ebay to find Felicity things to complete their collection, I sold her to a 50 year old woman in Alaska who said she can't get enough of the AG dolls. I liked the fact that an older woman still enjoyed the dolls, and I soon after found the Society of American Girls Collectors online and met a lot of people my age and older who still love the dolls!

My boyfriend ordered me Josefina's nightshift as a surprise after I got my AA in college and moved in. He got the AG catalogue with his order and looked through it for fun. He started to like Kit a lot, and kept telling me to get her as my fifth doll. I never thought he would become interested (although later, he earned a BA in history)! I always thought Kit was cute, but I never considered getting her.

I thought about how much fun it would be to collect Kit's collection together with Luke, both getting excited over her. Over much debate and even a poll for this site, I decided to get Kailey and Kit. At one point I had 6 dolls! I liked having 4 dolls, so Therese (#14) and Kailey (limited edition 2003) had to go. I couldn't get rid of Josefina (my favorite, who got me back into collecting) or Samantha (my first).

Samantha has been archived by American Girl. For some reason, I am not upset about it. I just have a feeling they will bring her back at a later time. It will be exciting when that happens. For now, it is time to learn about a new girl from 1914, Rebecca Rubin.

Update: I have now gotten Emily! She is so cute and has a great name, what can I say?

I find myself really wanting Julie and a doll with the Jess face mould (either Jess or JLY #30). That would bring my doll count up to 7!
